Before you call, gather the equipment brand and model, the age of the system, a clear description of the symptom and when it started, what you have already tried, and whether you are under warranty or a maintenance plan. That is usually enough for us to tell you on the phone whether this is a quick fix or a visit.
What to gather
The model number does most of the work. It is on a label inside the furnace door or on the side of the outdoor unit.
- Brand, model, and serial number from the rating plate
- Rough age, or the install date if you have the paperwork
- The symptom in plain terms, and when it started
- Any noise, smell, or error code, and whether it repeats
- What you have already checked, such as filter or breaker
- Warranty or maintenance plan status
Why it saves you money
A model number tells us whether a part is stocked, so the technician can arrive with it rather than making a second trip. A clear symptom description often lets us tell you it is a filter or a switch, which is a call that costs you nothing.
If you are calling for a quote instead
Add the square footage, the number of storeys, your current fuel type, whether you have ductwork, and what you want to change. That is enough for us to book the right length of visit for a proper heat-loss calculation.
We would rather tell you on the phone that it is your filter than charge you for a visit to find out. That is why we ask these questions first.
