Is the GM9C96 Right for Your Home?

Two-stage operation means the burner runs on low fire most of the time and only steps up to full output on the coldest days. In the Fraser Valley’s long stretch of mild, damp winter weather that is most of the season, so you get steadier room temperatures, quieter operation and fewer of the temperature swings a single-stage furnace produces.

Getting the Size Right

A furnace that is too large short-cycles, wears itself out and leaves uneven temperatures room to room. We size every replacement from a heat-loss calculation on your actual home — square footage, insulation, window area and orientation — instead of matching whatever was there before. Ask about current BC rebates before you decide; they can change which system makes financial sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a two-stage furnace worth the extra cost?

In our climate it usually earns its keep in comfort rather than pure fuel savings. Low-fire running holds a more even temperature and is noticeably quieter, which matters most in homes where the furnace sits near living space or bedrooms.

How is this different from a variable-speed furnace?

Two-stage refers to the burner having two output levels. The 9-speed ECM blower already adjusts airflow in fine steps. A fully modulating furnace varies burner output across a wider range and costs more again.

Will it work with my existing thermostat?

Usually, though a two-stage-capable thermostat lets the furnace use low fire properly. We will tell you if yours needs changing before we quote.

Big Valley Heating & Sheet Metal installs this furnace across Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and the wider Fraser Valley. Because it is a condensing furnace, it vents through PVC rather than a traditional chimney, which affects where it can go in your home — something we confirm during the site visit, not after.
