A line set is the pair of copper refrigerant tubes connecting an outdoor heat pump or condenser to an indoor coil or mini-split head. The larger, insulated suction line returns refrigerant vapour to the compressor; the smaller liquid line carries refrigerant indoors. Correct diameter, length, insulation, and leak-tight connections are essential for rated capacity and efficiency.
Why it matters to you
In older Fraser Valley homes, line set routing through walls, crawlspaces, or along the exterior often decides where indoor heads and the outdoor unit can go. Damaged or poorly insulated lines can lose capacity and drip condensation.
Practical guidance
Ask where the line set will run and how it will be covered outside; a line cover protects insulation from sun and weather. When equipment is replaced, ask whether the existing line set is the right size and condition for the new system, or whether it should be replaced.
