An inverter compressor is a variable-speed compressor whose motor speed is controlled electronically, letting a heat pump or air conditioner ramp output up and down to match the load instead of cycling fully on and off. Running long at low speed improves seasonal efficiency, temperature consistency and dehumidification, and reduces the wear caused by frequent starts.
Why it matters to you
Most Fraser Valley heating days need only part of a heat pump's capacity, which is where a variable-speed compressor runs most efficiently and quietly. It also lets one system cover both the mild majority of winter and the occasional cold snap.
Practical guidance
Ask whether the quoted heat pump is single-stage, two-stage or variable-speed, and compare its HSPF2 and low-temperature capacity accordingly. Inverter systems rely on electronics, so make sure the installer covers surge protection and commissioning.
